The Radcliffe Institute is collaborating with HarvardX in order to craft a series of programs to bring together faculty colleagues with a variety of perspectives about the digital revolution in teaching. This workshop is the first such program. We are developing a symposium for the fall or early winter that would provide an opportunity for faculty to consider and discuss—away from their departments and daily responsibilities—important ethical and systemic questions that online education raises. Our ultimate goal is to place Harvard in a leadership role in convening faculty dialogue around these important issues. The discussions may include consideration of the impact of technology on the educational ecosystem—including questions about the impact on faculty, on pedagogy, on bricks-and-mortar colleges and universities, on the growing divide between the rich universities (providers of online content) and the poorer universities (consumers of online content), about credit, and other topics.
