During my stay at the Radcliffe Institute, we will develop software and a repertory of encoded pieces of 14th century music in order to understand how late medieval music evolved over time.
I am seeking a research partner with knowledge of music theory at the level of Music 51a, along with skills in either programming (Python) or notation software (Finale or Sibelius). The project has greatly progressed with student software and repertory additions (please refer to my blog: http://music21-mit.blogspot.com/). Students will have the opportunity to present their work publicly and possibly to be coauthors on papers.
The student will benefit from being closely associated with the creation of a significant repertory work produced with resources available at Harvard and the Radcliffe Institute.
