I am working on a novel focusing on the parallel lives of two important protagonists in modern Albanian history: communist dictator Enver Hoxha and Albania’s first female writer, Musine Kokalari, who was exiled and imprisoned by Hoxha’s regime.
The project requires library research (books, documents, journals, etc.) regarding the history of totalitarianism in Albania and Europe. The two main fields of research will concern the relationship between 20th-century totalitarian leaders and books/private libraries, as well the lives of women under the totalitarian regime in Albania (1945–1991).
I am seeking a research partner fluent in Albanian and able to read, understand, and summarize texts in Albanian. Also, the student should have a keen interest in the history of modern Albania and totalitarianism in Albania and Europe. The student will have the opportunity to enrich her or his knowledge regarding the history of modern Albania and the effects of totalitarianism. Furthermore, the student will gain first-hand knowledge of the creative process of writing a book that combines field research, systematic collection of evidence, and a thorough understanding of journalistic techniques.
