Actress and writer Anna Deavere Smith, whom you probably recognize from An American President, Nurse Jackie, and Rachel Getting Married, performed at a private event the other night at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University. The performance was a selection of portrayals of various characters from her repertoire including the late Ann Richards, former governor of Texas, and The Vagina Monologues writer Eve Ensler. The event was part of a conference that runs through today called "Driving Change, Shaping Lives: Gender in the Developing World.'' After her performance, Smith mingled with playwright John Tiffany, a Radcliffe fellow and a director from the National Theatre of Scotland, and Radcliffe Institute Dean Barbara J. Grosz.
