Ordering Photocopy & Photographic Reproductions

Photocopies

The library offers limited photocopying services of library materials to both on-site and off-site requestors. Because photocopying and repeated handling can be detrimental to materials, only items in good condition will be considered. All orders are subject to the approval of library staff as well as copyright law. Please note that many of our holdings are too fragile to duplicate. Note taking is strongly encouraged as is digital photography.

Readers must identify and select the materials to be copied. Detailed photocopy instructions are available in the Carol K. Pforzheimer Reading Room. Off-site requestors should submit their request through Ask a Schlesinger Librarian.

Photocopy orders are completed in the order received. The library does not offer rush services. Turnaround time is typically between 2 and 4 weeks, depending upon the complexity of the order and available staff time.

Fees for Photocopy Service

On-site Requestors:
$0.45 per page, not including postage, with a five-hundred-page limit per reader per calendar year

Off-site Requestors:
$0.50 per page, not including postage, with a one-hundred-page limit per reader per calendar year. There is a minimum charge of $20. Complex orders may be subject to an additional fee.

Microfilm: Microfilm users may scan to CD or flash drive at no charge. While there is no charge for paper printouts fewer than fifteen copies, a $0.15 per page fee will apply to amounts exceeding fifteen copies.

Photographic Reproductions

There are fees for the reproduction and publication of photographs from the Schlesinger Library. When requesting reproductions of photographs or permission to publish images, please provide the photo number(s) if possible (beginning A, B, MC, PC, Gr), or the collection name(s) and a brief description of the image(s) in which you are interested.

Reproduction costs vary depending on which format best suits your needs. We offer the following services: black and white copy prints, hi- or lo-resolution scans, 35 mm slides and color transparencies. Pre-payment is required.
