Born Translated

The Contemporary Novel in an Age of World Literature

Photo by Tony RinaldoPhoto by Tony RinaldoRebecca L. Walkowitz will identify and trace the emergence of a new genre of world literature: novels that do not simply appear in translation but have been written for translation from the start. By turning to texts that have comparative rather than unique beginnings, she will reframe debates about political solidarities beyond the nation and contribute to ongoing conversations about the geography of the book, the theory of the novel, globalization, and translation studies.
