Giving Opportunities

The Institute relies on the generosity of the Radcliffe community to fund our work. Thank you for considering a gift in support of the Institute’s mission.

Unrestricted Giving, Unparalleled Impact

An unrestricted gift allows Institute leadership to apply funds to areas of greatest need and invest in strategic initiatives. Gifts to the Radcliffe Fund provide valuable flexible resources that are put to work immediately in support of Institute priorities, including free public programming, student research and teaching initiatives, and the preservation of American women’s history.

Donors may also designate a gift to a specific programmatic area, such as the Fellowship Program, the Schlesinger Library, and Academic Ventures and Engagement.

Advance Institute Priorities

Under Dean Tomiko Brown-Nagin’s leadership, Radcliffe is pursuing an ambitious strategy for the Institute’s third decade. A vision of both continuity and change, Radcliffe Engaged is an effort to embrace Radcliffe College’s legacy while leveraging the Institute’s strengths in interdisciplinary research, special collections, and promoting inclusion and opportunity. We invite you to partner with us in this work.

Donors can help to advance the above priorities by donating to the Radcliffe Fund. For donors who prefer to establish a named fund in support of a specific priority, the Institute offers the opportunity to create current-use funds with gifts of $100,000 or more and endowed funds with gifts of $250,000 or more. Gifts may be fulfilled over a five-year period. Please contact Stacey Elwood, associate dean for External Relations at stacey_elwood@radcliffe.harvard.edu or (617) 495-9423 to learn more.

Your Gift Matters: Radcliffe’s Financial Model

Unlike most higher education institutions, Radcliffe does not receive unrestricted funding in the form of tuition revenue. As a result, we rely even more on the generosity of the Radcliffe community to sustain our programming. Philanthropy, in the form of current-use gifts and income generated from endowed donor funds, provides 94% of our annual operating revenues. (Total does not sum exactly due to rounding.)

The Importance of Annual Giving

While endowed gifts generate predictable annual income for specific purposes at the Institute, current-use gifts can be spent immediately and represent thousands of donors who make annual gifts to the Radcliffe Fund and other flexible funds at the Institute. Each year, we rely on the loyalty and generosity of our annual donors to fund our programming and embrace new opportunities.
