The Pat Parker and Audre Lorde Letters

The Pat Parker papers arrived at the Schlesinger Library in January 2016 and are in the final stages of processing. The collection includes letters between the poet and her friends (mostly other poets and writers), including Audre Lorde, with whom she discussed their literary work, personal lives, and experiences with cancer.

Agnes Jones served as school teacher, postmaster, and lay preacher during her long life, but perhaps may be remembered most especially for her vivid religious poems.

The papers of African American poet, activist, lesbian, feminist Pat Parker—whom feminist scholar and poet Adrian Oktenberg declared “the poet laureate of the Black and Lesbian peoples”—have just arrived at the Schlesinger Library.
