This information is accurate as of the fellowship year indicated for each fellow.

Christina L. Davis is the Susan S. and Kenneth L. Wallach Professor at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, the Edwin O. Reischauer Professor of Japanese Politics in the Department of Government at Harvard, and the director of the Program on US-Japan Relations at Harvard. She specializes in international relations with a focus on the politics of trade. Through analysis of the interaction between domestic and international law, she examines the conditions that support cooperation.

During the fellowship, Davis will work on a book about how international rivalry shapes trade policy. Spanning two centuries of history with evidence from Britain, China, Japan, and the United States, the research analyzes economic competition in trade wars, industrial policy, and free trade agreements.

Davis is the author of Food Fights over Free Trade: How International Institutions Promote Agricultural Trade Liberalization (Princeton University Press, 2003) and Why Adjudicate? Enforcing Trade Rules in the WTO (Princeton University Press, 2012), winner of the ILAW Book Award and the Masayoshi Ohira Memorial Prize and cowinner of the Chadwick F. Alger Prize. She is also coeditor, with Carol Greenhouse, of Landscapes of Law: Practicing Sovereignty in Transnational Terrain (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2020). She graduated from Harvard College in 1993, received her PhD in government from Harvard in 2001, and returned to Harvard after 16 years as a professor at Princeton University.
