Laury Gutiérrez

Laury Gutiérrez is the founding director of La Donna Musicale, a nonprofit organization and internationally acclaimed ensemble dedicated to the performance of Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical music by women composers in a historically informed manner and to the performance of women’s contemporary music. She is also a specialist in early music from Spain and the New World.

Gutiérrez will work on a project to develop the repertory of music composed by Italian women into concert and educational programs for performance and professional recordings. These programs will be assembled from the most significant works by the composers researched.

Praised as a “first-rate” instrumentalist by the Boston Globe, Gutiérrez holds degrees from Indiana University and the Longy School of Music. She has received fellowships and a scholarship from Boston University, where she did doctoral work in historical performance. La Donna Musicale’s groundbreaking CDs The Seven Psalms of David, volumes I and II, and The Pleasures of Love and Libation: Airs by Julie Pinel and Other Parisian Women have received the highest praise (five stars) from the international early-music journal Goldberg. Gutiérrez is the recipient of a National Interest Waiver for permanent residency, which is granted to aliens “who because of their exceptional ability in the sciences, arts, or business will substantially benefit the national economy, cultural, or educational interests or welfare of the United States.”
