Urban Forest Bathing

October 2013

The seminar will seed a new “urban forest bathing” research initiative. Research to date suggests that exposure to natural environments with certain features can restore resiliency sapped by stress and may play a role in slowing the onset of chronic disease. A successful research collaboration requires the insights of landscape architects, urban planners, public health scientists, and environmental psychologists to recognize the complexity of this topic, generate the research required to refine therapeutic natural exposures, and then move forward as articulate advocates for a new urbanism that attempts to design cities which can help alleviate stress.
