As part of the 2017–2018 Fellows’ Presentation Series at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Jonathan Guyer RI ’18 considers why comics are so important in a new, emerging Arab visual culture. The mad cartoonists of Cairo are using their pens to redraw the lines of acceptable speech—and you’d have to be mad to be a cartoonist in this environment.
