And Then They Vanished: A Hidden History of Mexico’s Disappeared
A presentation from 2023–2024 Shutzer Fellow Oscar Lopez
While at Harvard Radcliffe Institute, Lopez is working on a book project examining the phenomenon of forced disappearance in Mexico. Mixing investigative journalism and in-depth archival research, the book will explore a surprisingly underreported element of Mexico’s recent history: how targeted state violence in the 1960s and '70s gave rise to a nation where more than 100,000 people are just gone.
