Matthieu Aikins is a Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist and author who has reported from Afghanistan and the Middle East since 2008. He is a contributing writer for the New York Times Magazine and a Type Media Center Fellow. His first book, The Naked Don’t Fear the Water (Fitzcarraldo Editions, 2022), about an undercover journey to Europe with Afghan refugees, was republished by Harper Perennial in February 2023 and has been translated into nine languages.

At Radcliffe, Aikins is writing a book about America's longest war, based on new sources and access available since the collapse of the Afghan republic.

Aikins received the 2022 Pulitzer for international reporting as part of a New York Times team that investigated civilian casualties from US airstrikes. The video investigation that he and his colleagues produced won two Emmy Awards. He has also received the National Magazine, George Polk, and Livingston Awards. He is a past fellow at the American Academy in Berlin, the Council on Foreign Relations, and New America, and his work has appeared in Harper's Magazine, the New Yorker, and the anthology The Best American Magazine Writing 2022 (Columbia University Press, 2022).
