The poet, author, feminist, and teacher Adrienne Rich '51 (1929–2012) has been hailed as “one of the most widely read and influential poets of the second half of the 20th century.”

In 1951, Rich's first collection of poetry, A Change of World, was selected by renowned poet W. H. Auden to win the Yale Series of Younger Poets competition. Her subsequent work explores female identity, motherhood, lesbianism, civil rights, peace, and the meaning of art.
