This information is accurate as of the fellowship year indicated for each fellow.

Alexandra Bell is an interdisciplinary artist who investigates the complexities of narrative, information consumption, and perception. Utilizing various media, she deconstructs language and imagery to explore the tension between marginal experiences and dominant histories. She considers the ways media frameworks construct memory and inform discursive practices around race, politics, and culture.

At Radcliffe, Bell will continue developing a speculative newspaper that explores issues such as prison abolition, housing, and wealth inequality using a solutions journalism framework. The newspaper will challenge the general assumption that news that postures a solution violates a journalistic ethos by advocating for certain issues. This framework is necessary to reimagine and communicate modes of liberation.

Bell’s work has been exhibited at Charlie James Gallery, Jeffrey Deitch, MoMA PS1, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, the Nathan Cummings Foundation, Pomona College Museum of Art, Spencer Museum of Art, Usdan Gallery at Bennington College, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. She is the recipient of a CatchLight Global Fellowship, an ICP Infinity Award, a New York Artadia Award, and a Soros Equality Fellowship. Bell holds a BA in interdisciplinary studies in the humanities from the University of Chicago and an MS in journalism from Columbia University.
