Siu The is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School. Her recent research has been published in prestigious journals such as Nature and Science. The has received numerous honors and distinctions, including a postdoctoral fellowship from the Cancer Research Fund of the Damon Runyon-Walter Winchell Foundation. She was a research associate on a Eurotom grant for a collaboration project between the University of Leiden and the Netherlands Cancer Institute in 1990–1991.

At the Bunting, The will work on the project entitled “Mechanisms of Hedgehog Distribution and Signaling.” She has characterized a Drosophila gene, called tout velu, which is a member of the EXT human tumor suppressor gene family. The will continue her research on Hedgehog, an important molecule in Drosophila’s development that requires signaling from tout velu. She hopes this research will contribute to both our understanding of human development as well as a better comprehension of some of the genes involved in human cancers.

The earned her PhD in biology from the University of Amsterdam.
